A large share of shoreline homes started as seasonal cottages, many from the 1920s through 1960s, later winterized and expanded. That history shows up mechanically: crawlspaces instead of basements, additions with their own baseboard or wall heaters, and duct runs that were improvised across two or three renovations. And this is a serious sailing lake — the Pewaukee Yacht Club on the southern shore hosts national inland regattas — so summer weekends fill the shoreline and the humidity load peaks exactly when the houses are fullest.
