The wrong answer is forcing either system into a house built for the other.

Central conditions everything to one setpoint — simple, invisible, even. Ductless conditions the rooms you actually use, when you use them, with per-room remotes. Households that fight over temperatures often prefer ductless on that feature alone.
Aesthetics and placement
Central AC is invisible indoors — a coil in the plenum. Ductless heads are visible white units on the wall or ceiling cassettes recessed into it. Some people never notice them; some can't stop noticing them. Look at photos of both before deciding.

Cold-climate ductless heads heat efficiently deep into fall and spring, which can shave real runtime off a boiler or furnace. If your home heats with radiators, ductless isn't just the cooling answer — it's a partial heating hedge too.

The southeastern Wisconsin fit
Our housing stock splits cleanly. Post-1960s subdivisions in Waukesha, New Berlin, and Brookfield are ducted forced-air homes where central AC is the native answer. The older stock — hydronic two-stories near downtown Waukesha, Wauwatosa bungalows, lake cottages around Oconomowoc and Pewaukee — has no ducts at all, and ductless is how those homes finally get real cooling without a construction project. Additions and bonus rooms over garages, chronically underserved by whatever duct system exists, are ductless territory in any house.

Do ductless heads work in Wisconsin winters too?
Cold-climate models heat effectively well below zero and carry shoulder seasons easily. Many of our boiler-home customers run heads for fall and spring heating and let the radiators take the deep winter.
